Director Paul Winter becomes chair of the new RSTA Maintenance of Concrete Pavements committee.
In recent months members of the RSTA – Road Surface Treatments Association, have voted to appoint LMS Highways Director Paul Winter as chair of their Maintenance of Concrete Pavements committee.
The decision for RSTA to add this sector comes following the announcement that National Highways will be investing up to £400 million in a drive to revitalise concrete roads in England in the LEW – Life Cycle Extension Works over the next five years. And release of the new National Highways Concrete Pavement Maintenance Manual (CPMM) published in 2021 which is the first of it’s kind for over 20 years, bringing together the latest advice to provide comprehensive guidance on maintaining concrete pavements.
The RSTA Maintenance of Concrete Pavements committee covers the following SHW (specification for highway works) clauses:
- Early Strength Concrete for Slab Replacement
- Bay Replacement
- Full Depth Repairs
- Thin Bonded Repairs
- Shallow Repairs – Early Strength Concrete
- Shallow Repairs – Polymeric Materials
- Overlays to Concrete Pavements – Asphalt
- Grouting Under
- Crack Sealing
- Crack Stitching
In past years Paul had involvement within the RSTA Crack and Joint Repair sector before being appointed to chair the Maintenance of Concrete Pavements committee. With years of experience within this industry and the project involvement LMS Highways has within the National Highways LEW Framework, Paul has vast knowledge in the clauses detailed above making him the ideal candidate to chair this committee.
Paul’s response to being made Chair on the RSTA Maintenance of Concrete Pavements committee. – “I’ve been a member of the RSTA for many years now but to become Chair of a committee which we work so closely within and to have my knowledge and expertise in this field noticed by other RSTA members is a great honour. I look forward to hopefully being Chair of the Maintenance of Concrete Pavements committee for many years to come.”
