LMS have been lucky enough to show William, 3rd generation of the LMS family and nephew to the Directors, what it is like to work in the road construction industry.

William’s work experience week at LMS Highways was a learning curve for both him and the company, this being the first work experience placement that we have had in the 30+ years of operating.

After our initial concerns about health and safety, Selina, LMS’s Business Manager worked very hard to put together a program for the week that offered a varied, yet safe, insight into different types of roles within the Company. Our aim, to give William a flavour of what he might want to do in the future.

William’s highlights of the week included:

“I really enjoyed doing accounts with Natalie and going through what she would normally do on a daily basis.”

“Tuesday was my most enjoyable day because I was doing what I love, I spent a day with Danny the LMS ‘tech guy’ who created the LMS Highway bespoke operating system that makes the company easier to run and more efficient.”

Later in the day William got to test his skills and work with Danny on his own coding project.

For William another highlight was the very strenuous day working with Leon our Trainee Supervisor. William got to try out lining but with sand instead of the hot molten material that is used on the roads, before going out to site to see the real work in action by the LMS Highways operatives.

William said, “I don’t think labour work is the job for me but I still enjoyed the day, it was actually really interesting how important and precise each measurement has to be”.

At the end of the week William was very tired but had thoroughly enjoyed the week, asking when he could come back as it was definitely better than school!
