APJ Asphaltic Bridge Joint Replacement In London
Posted by Carrie Packer on Wed 28th June 2017

Working for a Tier 1 contractor on behalf of Highways England, a skilled crew have been working on APJ Bridge Joints, also known as Asphaltic Plug Joints on a motorway route near London.
APJ's are the traditional solution to the dynamic end of a bridge and a significant factor in the life expectancy.

With a huge amount of experience in the replacement of plug joints we despatched a crew from our Harlow depot. On this occasion, our crew were on-site to reinstate a four metre length of existing joint. The nature of the traffic levels on the highway means that to minimise disruption and ensure safety of both motorists and our crew, this type of work tends to take place overnight as it did on this occasion.

This is a diagram of what an APJ would look like if it was cut through: LMS Highways offer refurbishment of existing bridge joints, including repairs to bridge joints following resurfacing works. We also offer a replacement service for failed joints either like for like, or replacing with a Nosing Joint, which for a small increase in cost gives a greater lifespan and requires less maintenance.

We use only the highest quality, durable materials which offer a maintenance-free operation.
